Singer-Songwriter Julian Hertz uit Elst (Overbetuwe) is de winnaar van
de 2e editie van Podiumbeest. Podiumbeest is een talentenjacht voor
jongeren tussen de 13 en 24 jaar en een initiatief van het Huis van
Puck en CultuurPact. Na een spannende voorronde in de Kultuurklup in
Elst te hebben overleefd moest Julian afgelopen zondag 11 December in
het Posttheater te Arnhem strijden tegen de finalisten uit de
gemeenten: Renkum, Bemmel, Zevenaar, Duiven, Rheden, Wageningen,
Lingewaard en Westervoort. Het niveau van het talent was volgens de
jury hoger dan afgelopen keer en elke act stond met recht in deze
finale die plaatsvond in het prachtige Posttheater.
“Zijn unieke stijl voegt iets nieuws toe aan de Nederlandse
muziekindustrie”, aldus juryvoorzitter en 3FM Serious Talent Dotan.
Niet alleen wint Julian een coachingstraject, om hem verder te helpen
in zijn muzikale carrière, maar ook heeft hij gelijk een aantal mooie
optredens op zak. Zo werd hij door Dotan uitgenodigd in Paradiso om
mee te doen aan een Serious Talent Singer/Songwriter avond en is hij
gescout door Arnhems festival phonq*, om daar in februari te komen

As you can tell by the lack of interesting updates to the site, the gigging season is over for a bit! Had a blast this past half year gigging with Hertz & Watts and Taxi For Two. This upcoming half a year I will mainly focus on writing new songs, and working hard at my internship.
My last planned show for now is the 13th of August in Sonsbeek, Arnhem where i’ll be playing for half an hour! Still have no idea about the setlist yet xD

Procrastination is obviously one of my many talents, HA! I realized whilst updating the website today (removed “pictures” and created the section “booking info”) that I havn’t updated the news section since last year.
So first of all a happy new year to all of you!!
2010 was a great year with a lot of exciting events, graduating university, playing a lot of gigs and lots of traveling! So far 2011 has already brought me my drivers license and my first bad case of the flu (mehhh). It has also started off with an amazing gig that I mentioned in the post below, supporting Bandera Latina! It was an amazing evening and if you were not able to attend here’s an impression of that gig:
I’m in a band called Hertz & Watts which consists of a Drummer, Bassist, Guitarist a Sax player and a Lead singer (ME) we’ve been practicing for a couple of months now and we are planning our first gig in March. We mostly play classic rock (the doors, cream, sam the sham & the pharaos) but also some other stuff!
I’ve also formed a musical duo with my friend Max, we are still thinking of a good catchy duo name….. IDEAS ARE WELCOME :P
I’m hoping this year will bring all of you happiness and good health and me more gigs, and more song writing inspiration HA!

First of all, Merry Christmas to all of you! Have you got any holiday plans?
I’m still writing new material for a new album, i’ve written about 10 songs so far so stay tuned for more news about this upcoming release! At one of my recent gigs I met a new friend, Max he plays the piano and drums and we are currently preparing for a gig together for next tuesday the 28th of December in Nijmegen.
So what I really want to talk to you about is a special new years gig by the band Bandera Latina http://www.banderalatina.nl/
They asked me to be their opening act! I will be playing originals both old and new material for about 45 minutes and covers by known and fairly unknown bands! I have invited Max to play some songs with me so it is going to be an amazing night! The headline act Bandera Latina will perform music with influences from all over the world. They have an excellent guitarist and a great vocalist!

6/09/2010 THE EP IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER! It’s a limited edition physical copy so if you really want a physical copy pre-order it asap! I’ll write a nice message in it for you =] It’s 10 euro’s including shipment all over the universe! Digital download of the EP will be available friday the 10th of september and will include HQ photo’s from the jessie square album photoshoot =] it will be available for 6 euro’s.
30/08/2010 Hello all! Hope you’ve all had a great summer! I had a nice one with some traveling and visiting friends!
I was in San Francisco visiting my friend Calvin and we decided to revive our band “Jessie Square” for the summer =] We thought it would be a nice idea to try and create an EP! It was a bit of a mission since we only had 9 days to make one and we didn’t have any songs written yet. We only knew we wanted this EP to be as diverse as possible with different styles and genres of music. I started writing, and wrote three songs for the EP all in different styles, Calvin added some more instruments and ideas to create this new original EP! We had a small photoshoot on the last day for the EP cover and we actually finished the last song on the EP just a couple of hours before I had to get up again to fly back to The Netherlands.
All in all i’m very excited about this EP and it will be out the 10th of September in digital form but I will make a limited edition of signed physical copies available for pre-order starting the 5th of September.

Happy Valentines Day all! If you are single, this is the time to make your move on all the other single people and if you are a happy couple then I hope you have many years of love ahead of you!
Just a short note on the EP (which i’m sure will turn into longer rambling than the “short note” I just promised you.) It will be available either tomorrow or Tuesday, by simple means that there was a delay in the initial copy I posted to the person I wanted to be able to hear it first. (the person the songs are to/about)
However, I do have exciting news I will have a limited number of physical copies available, just like the “Hanging with Joe” album it will really be limited and after that only the digital download option will remain. As a promotion for the digital downloads option I will have 1 of the 5 songs available for free!!!

Hello all who read and keep track of my website. I’ve begun the recording process for the EP. Which is now under the working title “Lost Songs of Love EP” I’ve recorded two tracks so far which by coincidence were the first and last song I wrote before “the break up”. So far it is going in the right direction, and i’m getting the hang of the new recording program I use (Logic Studio 9). These upcoming weeks will be very busy, I plan to create the artwork for the CD next weekend. I will keep you all posted on the progress I make =] take care all
